At Diptica® Photo & Video, creating powerful visuals is only half the story—protecting them is the other. That’s why we’ve added Offshoot to our workflow.
What is Offshoot?
It’s a smart, high-speed media offloading app built for photographers and filmmakers. It copies footage and images from our cameras to multiple drives at once—and here’s the magic part: it uses checksums to verify every single file.
What’s a checksum?
Think of it as a digital fingerprint for a file. Offshoot scans each file and generates a unique code. After copying, it scans again to make sure the copy is a perfect match: no missing bits, no corruption. If something isn’t 100% right, Offshoot tells us right away. That’s serious peace of mind.
Why we need it?
Our productions can get quite complex. Photography sessions are always done with at least two DSLR cameras, and often a third joins in. Video shoots involve cinematic cameras like the Blackmagic URSA 4.6K G2, Pocket Cinema 6K Pro, Canon EOS R3, or 1DX Mark III, with 2 to 3 cameras on set, and up to 8 cameras in large-scale projects (like the Bahros live-streamed peace concert: see blog post).
Often, we’re doing both photography and video for a client, and even adding backstage coverage, photo and B-roll. That means when we return to the studio, we’re sometimes facing 2, 3, 4...or more memory cards to offload, ranging from standard SD cards to high-end CFast 2.0 and CFexpress cards, with hundreds of gigabytes, or even close to a terabyte, of data to secure.
Offshoot helps us quickly and safely copy everything to multiple working and backup drives, with full checksum verification on each file.
At Diptica®, we’re not just focused on creativity—we’re committed to precision, reliability, and data integrity. Offshoot is one of the tools that helps us keep every project on track and every frame safe.
