Most people walk past these subjects every day without registering them. A dragonfly on a lotus, a bee so deep inside a blossom it has forgotten the world outside, the spiral tip of a caterpillar that has no idea it is being watched: at macro distance, the ordinary becomes entirely strange. This gallery is about that distance, or rather, the deliberate absence of it.
Nature photography at this scale demands patience that landscape or portrait work does not. The subject moves, the frame shifts, the moment disappears in a fraction of a second. What remains, when it works, is a version of the natural world that most cameras and most photographers never bother to reach. We bother.
