METRO DE SANTO DOMINGO
Building a metro is one of the largest things a city can ever decide to do. We were given long-term access to document the Metro de Santo Domingo across construction, commissioning, and operation, photographing the system at every level we could reach: tunnels under excavation, workshops with rolling stock up on jacks, control rooms, depots, and the moment trains finally entered active service.
The gallery reads as a portrait of a transport system being built and brought to life. Sparks flying off a rail in a freshly bored tunnel. Locomotives in fresh paint waiting for their first run. Engineers in hi-vis bent over schematics, coffee cooling next to the laptop. Confined underground spaces opening onto vast industrial halls. The work is technical record and human portrait at once: a city's metro photographed by the people who showed up every time it needed documenting, from concrete to commissioning.
