Our video workflow has always been built around a cinematographic mindset. Blackmagic cinema cameras for work where image quality is the priority. Canon bodies when photo and video overlap. Controlled lighting, deliberate lenses, time to build the shot properly.
That works beautifully when the conditions allow it.
Not every production does.
Sony sent us the PXW-Z200 to produce official photo and video material of the camera itself. We shot with it in real conditions. At the end of the job, we bought it from them. That should tell you something.
The Z200 is a professional ENG camcorder built for the productions where speed is not a compromise, it is the requirement. Corporate coverage, events, documentary work, fast-turnaround client jobs. 4K HDR, 20x optical zoom, AI subject-tracking autofocus, four-channel audio with XLR inputs, built-in ND, 12G-SDI and Wi-Fi in a single self-contained body. No external recorder. No lens decisions on location. No build time.
It does not replace our cinema workflow. It fills the gap next to it.
Blackmagic when the brief calls for crafted, intentional imagery. Canon when the job is hybrid. Sony when the priority is reliability, speed, and getting it right the first time with one operator and no second takes.
Most productions are not one thing. Now neither are we.
