After eight years as a paying member and advocate for Vimeo, today I’ve permanently closed my account.
Vimeo was once a reliable platform for professional filmmakers, photographers, and creators—a place where quality mattered, and where I could confidently host and share my work without compromise. For a long time, it was my preferred choice to embed high-quality videos across all my websites: Diptica, Enfo-K, Diptica Video, emmanuelavargues.com, and others, and to present work professionally to clients.
But that era is over.
Just five days ago, I noticed that many of my embedded Vimeo videos had disappeared from www.diptica.com and www.emmanuelavargues.com. I logged in and saw a banner stating that my account was over its storage limit, using 211% of a new and unfair 250 GB cap.
The problem: this cap was never communicated to me in advance. Not in any of the regular emails I received, not even in small print. My plan had always included 2 TB of storage, which was more than sufficient for my needs. This silent downgrade wasn’t just inconvenient: it broke the trust that had been built over years of loyalty and professionalism.
Vimeo’s shift in priorities, from a creator-focused platform to a corporate SaaS product, has clearly left many independent professionals behind. I know I’m not the first to walk away, and I’m certain I won’t be the last.
To Vimeo: I hope you find your way again, but this is where our journey ends.
